Thailand payment disputes: references, complaints and account recovery

Prepare a precise report for a pending transfer, unexpected wallet charge or unauthorised account activity. Route the issue to the responsible provider and keep recovery separate from a seller dispute.

Start from the actual transaction record

A PromptPay transfer, a TrueMoney wallet operation and a subscription charge are different transactions. The BOT PromptPay reference and TrueMoney terms help identify the service, but the account’s own record identifies what happened to your money. Record the provider, transaction type, reference, amount, currency, time and displayed status. Check whether the account was actually debited before describing a failed attempt as a loss. If a transfer is pending, do not repeatedly pay again without inspecting history or asking the provider.

Describe authorisation accurately

Tell support whether you initiated the transaction, approved a request, shared a code, lost a device or discovered an unfamiliar debit. These situations should not be collapsed into one label. If a merchant failed to deliver after a payment you authorised, document the sale as well as the transfer. If a caller induced a transfer, preserve the message or call details without continuing the conversation. Accurate facts help the provider assess protective steps and the applicable dispute process. Do not alter evidence or omit relevant actions because you fear being blamed.

Ask for the next accountable step

Contact the provider through its official app or website and ask which team handles the issue, what evidence is required and when to expect a response. For a financial-service complaint, the BOT help and complaints page links the official route, and the contact page lists 1213. These are information and escalation channels, not a promise of instant reversal. If the matter is a seller’s undelivered product, pursue the seller or platform process as well. One complaint reference does not automatically open every relevant process.

Account-recovery checklist

  • Use a trusted device and independently verified support contact.
  • Request protective action promptly if access or money is at risk.
  • Keep the payment reference and support case number.
  • Change exposed credentials and review active sessions through official settings.
  • Follow identity-verification instructions only within the verified provider process.
  • Check account entries before declaring a refund or reversal complete.

A provider may need to verify identity before restoring access. Do not interpret this as permission to send documents to an unsolicited social-media account. Keep a private record of documents supplied and use the secure channel specified by the provider. Never disclose a one-time login or payment code to someone offering to accelerate recovery.

Verify closure and learn from the incident

When the provider responds, compare the explanation with the original record. If a refund is agreed, verify the amount, currency and actual credit date. If the outcome is partial or unclear, request the written basis and any available review route. Keep originals and the final response together. Review the cause: a stale recipient, misleading subscription terms, duplicate payment or compromised device may require a different preventive change. This observatory does not act as a bank, adjudicator or recovery agent and cannot guarantee that a completed transfer will be recoverable.

Example: merchant dispute after an authorised payment

You approve a payment for a sports ticket, receive a bank confirmation, but the seller sends no ticket. The payment may have completed correctly while the commercial promise remains unfulfilled. Ask the seller for the order status and preserve the promised delivery time. Contact the financial provider if the transaction status or recipient is disputed, but describe your authorisation accurately. If you later discover that the seller impersonated an organiser, add that evidence to the report rather than rewriting the original timeline. The provider, platform and relevant authority may each need different information. Keep their case references separate and verify any actual refund in the account before treating the incident as resolved.

Frequently asked questions

Does a complaint automatically reverse PromptPay?

No. The provider must assess the transaction and available process; a completed instant transfer is not automatically cancelled.

Should I send an OTP to speed up recovery?

No. Authentication codes should not be disclosed to a caller, chat account or supposed agent.

How do I know the refund is complete?

Verify the actual account credit, currency and amount, not only a message saying the case is closed.
